Under-Bed Storage Calculator: Bin Height and How Many Fit
Enter your under-bed clearance and bed size to see the tallest bin that fits, how many fit, and roughly how much you can store.
How to measure
- Clearance: measure from the floor to the lowest point of the bed frame (including slats or drawer rails).
- Bed size: pick a standard size or enter the inside length and width of the frame.
- Bin size: enter the outside dimensions of the bin you plan to buy. The default is 16 x 24 in (40 x 60 cm).
How we calculate
- We subtract about 0.75 in (2 cm) from the clearance so bins slide without scraping.
- With one-side access we only count the front row you can actually reach.
- Legs and center supports aren’t included, so the real count may be lower.
What fits at each height
| Clearance | Best option |
|---|---|
| Under 4 in (10 cm) | Vacuum bags, or bed risers |
| 4-7 in (10-17 cm) | Slim bins |
| 7-11 in (17-27 cm) | Standard low-profile bins |
| Over 11 in (27 cm) | Tall bins, rolling storage |
